My research and teaching focus on the intersection between art, literature, and place. As a literary scholar and digital humanist, I'm particularly interested in harnessing the potential the digital offers both to enrich the classroom and enhance access to scholarship to a larger audience. In an increasingly globalized world with ever-developing means of communication, one's ability to discern and interpret what one views and reads is essential and forms the focal point of my teaching.
Currently, I have the honor to serve as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Puterbaugh Endowed Chair at Oklahoma State University. I have served in a range of administrative roles, including Associate Dean for Student Success, Engagement & Undergraduate Studies for the College of Arts & Sciences, Department Head of Modern Languages, French Language Program Coordinator and Director of Graduate Studies for the Dept. of Modern Languages at Kansas State University. Thanks in large part to these opportunities, I am keenly aware of the challenges and benefits that a liberal arts education broadly and second language instruction specifically offer in higher education as well as the vital importance that the liberal arts play in higher education for developing an engaged citizenry and a vibrant workforce who contribute in meaningful ways to society and improve our world.
Through an individualized approach that encourages cultural competency and linguistic proficiency, my classroom serves as an experimental lab space wherein students may explore and practice in a safe way that encourages confidence and prioritizes learning.
